this is making me nauseous and yeah Nonny I agree that this must be terrible for Jenny Slate. This is so freaking gross.

WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK SOMEONE STOP THIS MAN.
Or maybe Jenny Slate can separate herself from fantasy? And Captain America has been a Nazi like.. Several times. Drawn by Stan Lee (who LOVES this arc)
Who cares how SL draws Cap OR what he likes? Cap was created by two Jewish men to combat a Nazi like organization during a time when it was needed.
But hey sure keep rationalizing and justifying anti-Semitic and anti-Romani behavior.

Nick Spencer is a nazi, otherwise I can not explain to myself why he would have so much fun with ruining a character, written by jews to protect the world against nazis and other sh’t.
I’m a Jew. And yet, I can’t imagine using that information to tell someone else NOT to write something! Granted, I might not like it. There are so many books and story-lines that I definitely don’t enjoy. There are many books that I wish were never written. But what is next?
Do rape victims have a right to tell someone not to write a story that includes rape? Do family members of murder victims start to line up and tell murder mystery writers to stop? Do Catholics get to tell writers not to right something that makes their faith look negatively?
When does it end?
Did that bitch say who cares what Stan Lee likes or draws and then just fucking brought up Stan Lee as the Jew who drew him?
STAN LEE MADE CAPTAIN AMERICA A FUCKING NAZI AND HE IS THE JEW WHO CREATED HIM.
Stan Lee did not create him. Jack “I killed three nazis with guns with a knife I stole from one of them” Kirby and Joe Simon did. This is their legacy that was tarnished not Stan’s. Fuck you.
For real. Since people on this post clearly don’t know shit despite wanting to shame others into silence by implying they don’t know what they’re talking about, a little history…
When Kirby and Simon created Cap, the US was still exercising isolationist policies and staying out of the war. Pearl Harbor hadn’t happened yet, and Nazism was actually alive and well in the US – not to the degree that it was in Germany, but look, we’re home to the KKK. Let’s not pretend we didn’t have privileged white people of the time who weren’t just as capable of buying into Hitler’s superior race rhetoric as any European.
It was in this atmosphere that Kirby and Simon created Steve Rogers. He was actively intended to be propaganda. They made him Captain America because he was their symbol of what they wanted America to be, the behavior they believed their country should be enacting in the face of the social evils of their time. He was a call to arms and a kick in the ass, and you know what else? THEY GOT HATE FOR IT.
People want to shame others for the hate they’re dishing out to Nick Spencer for this story, but you know what? Fuck that. I honestly don’t know the extent of the vitriol Spencer’s gotten for this – I don’t know if he’s received death threats or anything like that. It would disappoint me if he has, because let’s be clear, that is never okay and I will never condone that kind of thing. But you know what I can absolutely guarantee Spencer hasn’t gotten for this story?
Three American members of the Nazi party physically showing up in the lobby of the building where he works and calling up to his office to say they want to speak to the man who wrote this Captain America trash and show them what they think of him.
That is a thing that happened to Jack Kirby, for daring to create a patriotic anti-Nazi symbol of peace and liberty. And by all accounts, Jack Kirby told them to wait there and he’d be right down, rolled up his sleeves, and stalked downstairs, the three cowards booking it out of there before he arrived.
And this is why I have enormous respect for Jack Kirby and none at all for the man who has spit all over his memory, his creations, and everything he stood for and wrote and drew stories and characters to stand for. Jack Kirby was a man who believed in using storytelling as a vehicle for change, as a way to reach people, to convey messages that mattered. Nick Spencer is a passive aggressive little troll who believes in using shock tactics to get attention, in stirring the pot to see what happens, who banks on the fact that the characters he writes means something to people as a way to ensure a charged emotional reaction to his plot twists and then just sits back and fans the flames rather than take ownership of decisions he made and messages he chose to convey with his writing.
Jack Kirby understood that stories are neither written nor read in a vacuum and used them as a way to reach people and connect with them. Nick Spencer understands this as well but pretends he doesn’t, as he’d rather use his position and platform to create chaos rather than anything meaningful. But hey what the hell. That’s his right. Just like its my right to find him a shitty human being and a fucking hack writer because of it.
And before anyone brings it up–yes. Stan Lee wrote (and Jack Kirby penciled) a story in which Captain America was brainwashed by the Red Skull into becoming a Nazi. “Lest Tyranny Triumph!”, Tales of Suspense Vol 1 #67, July 1965.
The key word is “brainwashed.” CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS NOT WILLINGLY SERVING EVIL. And the cliffhanger emphasized that even under brainwashing, Cap was fundamentally a decent person, refusing to kill an innocent man even when ordered to do so. Furthermore, Bucky was free, searching for Steve, and determined to save his friend. (And by the next issue, he’d broken free of the brainwashing completely.)
There is a vast difference between briefly being brainwashed into serving evil and willingly signing up for it.
Cap was chosen for this idiocy precisely because he matters to readers, because he is seen as a good person. To quote Tom Brevoort in Time Magazine: “…
There should be a feeling of horror or unsettledness at the idea that somebody like this can secretly be part of this organization. There are perfectly normal people in the world who you would interact with on a professional level or personal level, and they seem like the salt of the earth but then it turns out they have some horrible secret — whether it’s that they don’t like a certain group of people or have bodies buried in their basement.”
Brevoort and Spencer are suffering from the delusion that they are making an effective political point–that anyone can be corrupt and can have loathsome beliefs. I don’t think that this is a point that anyone needed to make. We’re all too aware these days of the feet of clay possessed by the rich, the famous and the powerful. Rather, I think that this world is hungry for inspiration and desperate for heroes. We want to believe that there are good people out there who can and do make a difference.
Honestly, if Nick Spencer wanted to rant about corrupt political systems, terrorist groups, and how much he distrusts the current lineup of Presidential candidates, he should have just gotten a blog. It would have been infinitely more productive than this.
So N*ck Sp*ncer just tweeted a picture of Chris Evan’s as Captain America photo shopped with the Hydra Logo instead of his star. And I’m feeling super pissed for a couple of reasons. One Chris Evan’s while not in credibly vocal about it tweeted “say it ain’t so” after the reveal which suggests he doesn’t like it. Also Chris Evan’s girlfriend comedian Jenny Slate is Jewish. And now there’s a picture of her boyfriend photoshopped as a Nazi.
